Tensions between two countries Armenia and Azerbaijan settled in the middle of Europe and Asia are at their peak. In the previous conflict, 16 soldiers from both countries, including the general of Azerbaijan, were killed. This has deepened the dispute between the two countries for over 3 decades. On the other hand, Turkey has also come in support of Azerbaijan. The Turkish defense minister has threatened that Armenia will have to pay the price for the attack.

According to reports coming from Azerbaijan, on Sunday, Armenia’s army launched a fierce gun attack on the military posts of Azerbaijan on the north-western border of the country. In response, the Azerbaijan army also retaliated. In this, 16 soldiers of both countries have died. This fierce conflict between the two sides has made the situation in the region very tense.

Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan

Until the 1990s both countries were part of the Soviet Union. There has also been a war in the mountainous region between the two countries, but this dispute has not been resolved yet. The Nagorno-Karabakh region is an international part of Azerbaijan but is occupied by ethnic factions of Armenia. However, this conflict has taken place in the disputed area north. According to Azerbaijan, there has been a fierce struggle in the Tovuz district.

Countries around the world including the US, Russia have expressed deep concern over this conflict. Let us know that both sides keep on accusing each other of targeting civilian targets on the border. Azerbaijan alleged that several civilians and soldiers were killed in Armenia shelling. Meanwhile, Armenia has also alleged that Azerbaijan is shelling its Beard town. The conflict has come at a time when Azerbaijan’s President Aliyev criticized the international mediators a few days ago.

Russia made a ceasefire between the two in the year 2016.

Azerbaijan is angry that even after 30 years, the mediators are not able to resolve the dispute. Both sides have accused each other of instigating the dispute. Now everyone’s eyes are on Russia. Russia itself made a ceasefire between the two in the year 2016. In April 2016, 200 soldiers and civilians were killed in the ‘April War’. In the 1990s there was a fierce war between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

During this time Armenia supported the majority ethnic Armenian factions in Nagorno-Karabakh. After this war, there was a ceasefire between the two in the year 1994. During this time a referendum was held in Nagorno-Karabakh, in which most people boycotted Azerbaijan. The local people supported being independent rather than joining the two countries. After this, in 2016, tensions between the two countries increased again and there was a fierce struggle for 4 days.
